ABOUT

My name is Ingrid Du Plooy, founder and director of RAL Academy, Acting Hope NPO, and Hope Journey International, inspired by my three sons. With over 30  years of teaching experience,

I am passionate about empowering children and women to uncover their talents, realise their potential, and make a difference. In 2012,

I launched Acting Hope to create sustainable initiatives addressing environmental, economic, educational, and emotional challenges. My mission is to inspire positive change and leave a lasting legacy of hope.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

I hold a B. Prim. Ed degree from the University of Stellenbosch, specialising in
Special Needs Education, and an OCR Certificate in Specific Learning

Difficulties from the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre in the UK. With over 15 years of experience intutoring and study skills, I’ve helped students develop effective habits and improve academically.

Having taught in both South Africa and the UK, I bring a deep understanding of diverse educational systems, inspiring students at RAL Academy to Rise Above Limits

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My teaching philosophy focuses on creating a supportive, inclusive environment that fosters academic success and personal growth. I use a multi-sensory approach to cater to diverse learning styles and integrate drama to encourage creativity and self-expression.

Through Acting Hope, I’ve seen how developing talents empowers
children and women to inspire change in their communities. I aim to nurture
responsibility and leadership in my students, helping them build a future driven by positive impact.

FUN FACT

I’m highly competitive and not the best loser when it comes to board games! I was a beauty queen long ago, I was crowned Mrs United Nations South Africa in 2013 and placed 1st runner-up internationally. My NPO, Acting Hope, earned multiple awards, including Community of the Year (2012, 2013, and internationally in 2014).

Fun fact: I love chocolates but have never tried olives – not even in Italy!
