ABOUT
My name is Kelsey Botha, I am originally from Knysna, a small coastal town in the Garden Route, Western Cape. I love teaching and especially seeing students gain more confidence and understanding of the content. I moved to Cape Town to pursue my teaching career and would love to leave a positive impact on my learners that I encounter. I am excited for this new journey at RAL Academy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
I obtained my bachelor’s degree in environmental management with a focus on Geographical Information Systems (GIS). I worked abroad in Taiwan as an ESL teacher at a private academy in 2024. I have experience as an online English teacher for students across the globe. I have obtained my PGCE in Geography (FET Phase) and Life Orientation (Senior Phase) and wish to continue my studies in the education industry with more focus on how to help learners with learning barriers.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe every learner is capable of growth when they feel supported, respected, and challenged. My teaching approach focuses on active learning, critical thinking, and real-world connections, especially relating Geography to students’ everyday lives. I aim to create a classroom where learners feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and think independently. Education should not only transfer knowledge but also build confidence, curiosity, and responsible global citizens.
FUN FACT
– I enjoy learning about different cultures and places around the world, love traveling.
– I love cooking and experimenting with dishes from various Asian countries.
– I love watching Anime and Korean dramas(K-dramas).
– I believe Geography helps us understand life, not just maps.
